OPI, VRI, or in-person interpretation: how do they differ?
The right format depends on the conversation, the participants, and what the setting permits.
Over-the-Phone Interpreting (OPI) uses an audio connection. Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) adds live visual communication. In-person interpretation places the interpreter at the appointment. None is a universal substitute for the others.

What changes when you add video?
Video may help when facial expressions, demonstrations, or other visual context matters. That does not mean video is permitted or suitable in every setting. The requester should confirm its own technology, privacy, and format rules.
When location changes the plan
An in-person appointment requires travel and site logistics. A remote session can connect participants in different places, but still needs a workable connection and an approved process for joining. Lincua reviews local in-person requests and remote requests against the assignment details.
Qualifications and scheduling still matter
